In divorce, aside from the hassles of getting things underway, from the filing of divorce to breezing through the proceedings and actually getting a divorce, there are a few things that can make the process even worse.  These are property division and alimony.  For example, you and your partner are getting a divorce from each other.  Even when you get things done and have the divorce settled, alimony and property division makes things more complicated.

You might contend that even if you’re not the highest earner of a wage in the partnership that most of the property is still because of your efforts.  The court has to determine the right way to divide the property.  The only way you can get what you deserve and what you actually worked for during the partnership is to have representation who is experienced and knowledgeable with divorce law.

With regard to alimony, this is a very serious matter because it’s the payments one spouse makes to the other.  It has to be determined what kind of alimony should be awarded one of the spouses.  It can be rehabilitative, permanent or temporary.  If you think for example that permanent alimony is a bit unjust, your side can be aired out with the help of a lawyer.  On the other side of the fence, you might be getting a small alimony.  It will be your lawyer’s job to make sure that your standard of living can be maintained.
